Breakfast and Lunch
SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH ARE FREE TO ALL STUDENTS THIS SCHOOL YEAR!
Milk will not be sold separately this year. If you would like your child to have a milk with their cold lunch, please have them order a yogurt lunch when the teacher does the morning lunch count. They will not be charged for that meal, and will receive a milk with it. No food will be wasted, due to the way those lunches are packaged, and no child is ever forced to eat if there is something they don't like.
Children With Special Needs: If a doctor has determined that your child has a disability, and the disability would prevent the child from eating the regular school meal, the school will make any substitution prescribed by a licensed physician at no extra charge. The physician's statement, including prescribed diet and/or substitution, must be submitted to the food service department in the superintendent’s office. For further information, please call Jen Salo.
__________Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program__________
October 29, 2024
Dear Parents and Guardians, We are excited to announce that Dollar Bay Tamarack City School was selected by the Michigan Department of Education to participate in the United States Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program for this school year! A fresh fruit or vegetable snack will be offered to your elementary age student (preschool-fifth grade) at least twice a week, until the grant funds are depleted. These snacks will be served during the morning snack time starting on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the month of November.
The goals of this grant program are to: ● Create healthier school environments by offering healthy choices. ● Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience. ● Increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption. ● Make a difference in children’s diets to impact current and future growth.
You can support your student’s efforts to increase their fruit and vegetable consumption in several ways. Examples include: ● Take your student shopping and allow them to pick a fruit or vegetable. ● Keep fruits and vegetables visible in your kitchen at home. ● Set a positive example by regularly eating fruits and vegetables yourself. ● Involve your student in meal planning by letting them choose fruits and vegetables that will be served during mealtime at home. ● Visit local farmers’ markets to explore seasonal produce available.
Please find a menu for the month of November attached to this letter and on the school’s website. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me by phone (906) 482-5800 ext 1131 or by email saloj@dbschools.us. Jen Salo Food Service Director
